Alsace is located in the far north-eastern corner of France. It lies between the Vosges mountains and the French border with Germany. As a wine region is is renowned for its aromatic white varieties such as gewurztraminer, riesling and pinot blanc. These varieties benefit from its cool climate and long, dry ripening season. It is known as one of the driest winemaking regions in France as it is protected by the Vosges Mountains which protects from the prevailing westerly winds but also casts a rain shadow over the area.

J-B Adam is one of the oldest estates in Alsace, with 19 ha of organic vineyard in the Haut Rhin village of Ammerschwir. The granite slopes of Grand Cru ‘Kaefferkopf’ provide the backdrop to the village and produce the estate’s unforgettable wines. 400 years on, J-B Adam remains in safe family hands, guided by the 14th generation of Adams, Jean-Baptiste and his daughters Laure, Pauline and Marie. Their progressive stewardship has seen the introduction of biodynamic principals and a ‘non-interventionist’ regime in the cellar (a natural process of slow pressing, wild fermentations and no filtration) that ensures wonderfully expressive, clean and complex wines.

Tasting Notes

Jean Baptiste Adam have created an organic range of wines which are fully dedicated to the expression of the grape variety. This Pinot Blanc is bright yellow colour with golden hues and surprising ripeness lending weight and softness. The grapes are hand picked and vinified in century old traditional wooden casks to express the natural fruit characters of apples and stone fruits with elements of baked fruits and cinnamon.

A perfect match for sushi, seafood tapas, chicken in rich sauces and even firm cheeses like Gouda or Savarin.
